Music by Caroline Shaw, Dietrich Buxtehude, and others
The final concert of our tenth anniversary season is built around Caroline Shaw’s To the Hands. Written as a response to “Ad manus,” the third cantata from 17th-century Danish composer Dieterich Buxtehude’s meditations on the suffering body of Christ, To the Hands interpolates and “colors [Buxtehude’s] language, as… the suffering of those around the world seeking refuge, and of our role and responsibility in these global and local crises, gradually come[s] into focus.” In addition, we’ll be performing the Buxtehude cantata on which it is based and a small number of accompanying selections. Join us as we close out our tenth anniverary season with this extraordinary musical reflection, which will also be our first concert to feature a small string ensemble in addition to vocalists.
